□ Name: Elua
□ Series: Kushiel's Legacy

□ Canon point: Five years after the founding of Terre D'Ange, between nine hundred and fifty to one thousand years before the events of Kushiel's Dart.
□ History: History
□ Personality: On first meeting Elua, many would come to the conclusion that he's some kind of delusional, half-mad, pacifistic proto-hippy. Which isn't too far off. What he is is the bastard child of Yeshua ben Yosef, the son of the One God, who was born when the blood of his father mixed with the blood of the Magdalene in the Earth, producing him. As a result of his unique parentage he doesn't come off as exactly normal most of the time. He's one of the kindest and most understanding people you could ever hope to meet, and if he weren't semi divine (and if he hadn't had a troupe of literal guardian angels with him for some time) he would probably have gotten in even more trouble than he has. Not because he's a troublemaker, unless you consider a man whose version of conflict resolution involves flowers and kisses a troublemaker, but just because of who he is. In his world he was rejected and cast out for who he was (the illegitimate son of the son of a God that is too busy mourning his dead son to notice that he has a living grandson,) and while he is far from unaware or unhurt from this, he has only taken from it that he should be as kind as possible to everyone, rejecting no one that does not reject him. Even then, being rejected does not mean he doesn't care for the person, just that he accepts that he is not welcome by them. Even if they have rejected him in the past, he will still love someone, and help them if they ask. No judgement, no condemnation. Just acceptance and love. He really well and truly loves people, even when they're stupid and don't listen and don't do what they should. Humans causing each other pain makes him terribly sad, and all he really wants to do is help everyone to fix things. He's the gentle sort of pushy, he doesn't nag or push or try to change someone immediately, he realizes that people need time to change.

Elua has absolutely no problem with sexual interaction of pretty much any kind. As far as he is concerned, the only thing that matters is that everyone involved is able to and has given consent. That having been said, rape is one of the things that will specifically get him angry. In Terre D'Ange, the country that he has founded, rape is not only considered illegal, it is the highest heresy of a deity whose ruling law is "Love as thou wilt." Respect for people is all, for their decisions, and for their lives. His sympathy for the victims of what to him is such a horrfic crime knows no bounds, even comparable to his usual sympathy and lack of judgement when it comes to people. He values people dearly, because they were valuable to his father, and because of those who gave him love and shelter in his roaming over the Earth.

He prefers to be outside when he can, when his people build temples for him they are open to the sky, and the area of worship lacks even walls in many cases, instead having four pillars to mark the corners. He loves plant life, not just flowers and fruits and vegetables, but even plants most would consider weeds. He tends them all. Personal headcanon is that he’s a vegetarian, but again he does not judge anyone harshly for having a differing diet, though he would never agree with animal cruelty.

The most important and most often cited part of Elua’s personality is his love of Earth and people and his lack of judgement. Canon never has him getting angry, though it is highly possible that he is capable of it, especially in the case of rape or murder. But in most cases this is the person that almost redefines the term “long fuse.” Headcanon says that he’s very inquisitive, always wanting to find out new things, to talk to people and just explore. The world is endlessly fascinating to him, its people and creatures and plants, which is one of the reasons that even after the founding of Terre d’Ange he didn’t stop roaming, he just roamed in a smaller area. He dearly loves Terre d’Ange, the beautiful land and especially the people that live in it, the ones that accepted him and loved him after years of rejection and wandering over the known world. He will always miss Terre d’Ange while he’s away from it, and may worry about the people he has adopted as his own, but he will also take advantage of his new surroundings to learn more, both for his own benefit and to teach the people in his land that he loves so much.

□ Age: Approximately 40 years old, though he never looks older than his early 20s.
□ Gender: Male
□ Appearance: We are given little canon description of Elua other than that he is beautiful and his face caring, his hair unbound and his feet bare. For game purposes, Elua has dark olive skin, indicative both of someone who belongs to a race from a hot climate and who has then spent much of his time out in the sun. His hair is a dark brown, coming just past his chin, and it will sometimes have flowers in it, though whether he puts them there himself or if they simply grow around him is debateable. He has a neat mustache and goatee that he keeps trimmed, framing a wide and generous mouth that is smiling more often than not. His eyes are the bright blue of a clear summer sky, with laugh lines at the corners. He stands about 5'9" and weighs about 135 pounds.
□ Abilities/Powers: Elua's powers aren't detailed, though given that he's the One God's grandson, it's reasonable to assume he would have some, the only one specified in canon is the ability to make flower's bloom in his footsteps wherever he walks. It doesn't matter if it's snowing or if he's in a city or climbing over rocks, flowers appropriate to the climate (or if they can grow there, red anemones) bloom in his footsteps. When his blood touches the ground, flowers bloom as well. Because it makes sense for the character, I generally choose to give him minor healing powers, nothing too powerful, just the ability to heal something like the flu or minor wounds. If you would prefer that we keep his powers strictly to canon though that's fine.
□ Personal Items: Elua has little else than a blue tunic, with loose breeches that he sometimes ties around his calves if he needs to, and about a bouquet or two worth of flowers (white lilies and red aneomones) on his person, braided into his hair or just simply in his pockets. The flowers take much longer to wilt than regular flowers, a week with no water and upwards of two months if properly cared for in a vase.

□ Third Person Sample: This new city was fascinating to Elua. It wasn’t Terre d’Ange, as far as he could tell it was nowhere in any of the lands he had ever been to, and he had thought he had roamed to every country the world had to offer. But apparently he had been wrong. That in and of itself didn’t bother him, but he knew he would miss Terre d’Ange. The land and the people had accepted him so readily that it would hurt his heart to be parted from them, to stay in this stone city where his flowers were unable to bloom. He was sure he would be able to get back eventually, and even if he didn’t his followers and his Companions would be able to get on without him. Even Cassiel, though he feared the stoic angel would take their separation harder than the rest. There was so little in life that was permanent after all, though it made him sad to think that his time in Terre d’Ange had been so short.

After some time spent wandering he found a flower shop and went in, enjoying the sights and smells of the flowers he had missed since coming to the city. There was a girl in the back, smiling and welcoming, surrounded by flowers, and Elua thought her very beautiful. “Can I help you with anything?” She leaned forward, elbows on the corner to show off her generous bosom, which Elua couldn’t help but appreciate. He took her hand with a smile and kissed the back of it, a gesture which made her smile even wider. “Just speaking with you makes my heart lighter, dear lady. But, do you have any anemones? I would like to purchase a bouquet. And some seeds if you have them.”

“Hm, I think I might have some in the back. If you’d like to come with me we can both see if we can find them.” She winked, and Elua followed her back, and had to confess that he was not terribly surprised when the backroom contained very few flowers at all. But the shopgirl didn’t seem to care at all, and when she pulled him close to kiss him he responded with enthusiasm. Perhaps the anemones could wait.
